Meet Kathy

Kathy brings a wealth of experience and compassion to her work as a mental health counselor. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English from the University of Southern California and a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, Kathy’s journey reflects her deep commitment to helping others. A lifelong learner, she is trained in several therapy modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Adlerian Therapy. She is a Registered Play Therapist  ™, specializing in Adlerian Play Therapy, and is a certified coach in the Positive Discipline Method for parents. She is also a certified coach for the Grief Recovery Method. Kathy is trained in EMDR and has a background in trauma work. She was a former Crime Victims Assistant for a police department and a Crisis Hotline volunteer for several years.  Rooted in her strong faith, Kathy integrates inner healing prayer and spirituality into sessions when desired, respecting each client’s autonomy and unique journey.

Most importantly, she is passionate about helping clients identify core issues, navigate life’s challenges, and move toward value-based living with resilience and hope.

 My Approach In Therapy

No matter how discouraged, frustrated, confused, scared, or “stuck” you feel right now, Kathy is ready to help you take the first step toward change and mental wellness.

As a guide, encourager, and advocate, Kathy joins her clients on their personal journeys, wherever they happen to be. She desires to help others identify the core issues that have led them astray, guide them in a new direction, and support them as they pursue a path toward value-based living.

Kathy is trained in Acceptance  and Commitment Therapy (ACT)  and also incorporates many other therapeutic models in her work with clients.

She is also a Registered Play Therapist ™ , specializing in Adlerian Play Therapy.  This approach is fairly structured and direct and incorporates active guidance rather than passive observation/reflection.  Kathy likes to work with parents and involve them in the process of instilling positive, internally motivated behaviors in their children. She is a certified coach in the Positive Discipline method for parents.

Kathy is also a Certified Trauma Professional and trained in EMDR. This method helps people to "metabolize" painful past memories and reframe events to see them with meaning and purpose.

Finally, Kathy is trained and practiced in inner healing prayer work and can incorporate faith into sessions if desired.  She
open to exploring issues and interests related to faith and spirituality with her clients and believes this is an important component of mental health.

Most importantly, Kathy respects each person’s autonomy, recognizing each person is on their own
unique journey.

She believes that all people possess the ability to exert control over their behavior, emotions, thoughts, and social environment to achieve mental wellness and peace.

Whether you are looking for support and guidance to help you through a challenging season or situation, or are ready to overcome chronic issues, Kathy will be there for you.
